This hours calculator has two modes. The weekly timesheet automatically adds up hours worked from Monday to Sunday based on each day's clock-in, clock-out and break time, and supports overnight shifts that cross midnight (for example, 10 PM to 6 AM). If you add your hourly rate, it also calculates the estimated pay.
The second mode adds and subtracts a list of loose durations in hours and minutes format, useful for totaling overtime, project time or any list of durations that don't fit into a weekly timesheet.

How worked hours are calculated
For each day, the clock-in time is subtracted from the clock-out time and the break is deducted. If the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the calculator assumes the shift crosses midnight (so an overnight shift from 10 PM to 6 AM is 8 hours) instead of giving a negative result.
Decimal hours and hourly pay
Many payroll systems and spreadsheets need hours in decimal format instead of hours and minutes: 7 hours and 30 minutes is 7.5 decimal hours. This calculator shows both formats at once, and if you add your hourly rate, it multiplies the decimal hours by that rate to estimate your pay.
Adding and subtracting loose durations
When you're not dealing with a clock-in/clock-out shift but a list of durations (partial times from a project or a recording, for instance), it's faster to type each duration as HH:MM and mark whether it should be added or subtracted, and let the calculator total it up.
